Prayers of intercession:

Loving God, we so long for the world to be at peace – but war rages on. So, we pray today for those who live in war zones, especially in Ukraine where the battles are intensifying and the casualties are rising, but also for those places that have slipped out of the news but where fighting continues. We pray for all who have been displaced from their homes as a consequence of war and oppression.
Lord Jesus, come into our world afresh
and turn longing and fear into belonging and peace.

Amen.

Compassionate God, we long for our children and schools to be safe and our hearts are breaking at the tragedy in Texas. We pray for those who have been killed and injured, for children and teachers traumatised by the shooting, for grieving families, for the emergency services and for those entrusted with the making of gun laws.
Lord Jesus, come into our world afresh
and turn longing and loss into belonging and comfort.

Amen.

Generous God, we so long for every child to be fed and for every community to thrive – but hunger and poverty blight the lives of so many. We pray for those turning to violence and crime to get what they need, for those protesting and campaigning and for the places where there is civil unrest due to the cost of living. We pray for a fair sharing of the earth’s resources, and for ethical farming practices and trade deals.
Lord Jesus, come into our world afresh
and turn longing and scarcity into belonging and plenty.

Amen.

Wise God, we pray for politicians and those in power, for our own government, for the newly elected government in Australia. We pray for those engaged in diplomacy across the family of nations, and for all those who abuse power. We pray for transparency and accountability for all those who hold public office.
Lord Jesus, come into our world afresh
and turn longing and power into belonging and servanthood.

Amen.

Living God, we pray for your church around the world and in this place. We long to see your kingdom come, and we ask that you will use us to be your hands and feet and voice, wherever there is need or isolation or grief. We pray you will help us to be good stewards of your creation, good listeners where people are struggling, and good companions where people are searching for you.

Prayers of intercession

Lord, you give us life.
But there are times we don’t live life the way you wish us to.
When pain has us in its grip, we may give in to the gloom of pessimism.
Forgive us when we see only the gloomy downside of situations.
Forgive us when circumstances take over and moaning is easier than fighting.
Dark times sap our strength and courage and blind us to your light.
Renew our strength to fight our way into your healing light.
Forgive us and rekindle the light of hope in these times, Lord, that all shall be well.

Amen

Through the blood of the Lamb, we are forgiven and cleansed.
Let us praise God for his Son, the Lamb,
who through the cross paid the price for our sins.

In this week of local elections,
we pray for the results
and for godly men and women who serve their communities.
May truth be tended and integrity fed
and the way of Christ be followed.
We pray for the people of France for their re-elected president
and the forthcoming National Assembly elections,
and indeed for all those across the world who are elected to power.
May truth be tended and integrity fed
and the way of Christ be followed.
We pray for those entrusted with the administration of justice
and implementation of policies that affect the lives of millions.
We pray for those whose abuse of power leads to the oppression
and even deaths of those who speak out.

Prayers of Intercession

World - We thank You for the world You created, the world you gave us stewardship over, and the world that we share together. Thank You for the authority You have given us, and the privilege of drawing near to You as we bring the needs of creation to our Creator. Europe - We pray that Europe would stand together, not as individual countries, not by being defined by EU, but by a genuine consensus of sharing resources, offering protection and security in these troubled times.

Our hope is that NATO leaders can keep their cool and exercise restraint, to prevent the escalation of tension, and work together, to establish peace as soon as possible, and avoid inflicting a heavier price on Europe and the world.

Russia & Ukraine - As symbols of Russian and Ukrainian friendship were destroyed this week, may we remember that forgiveness together with a common desire to move forward, forging a future based upon trust which is symbolised by our relationship with God. A relationship that was reconciled through Christ’s redemptive work on the cross. May a solution for peace be found, one that brings to a halt both the rhetoric of leaders and the ruin of citizens lives. We also pray that NATO leaders would seek Your wisdom, in bringing a lasting peace to these countries and indeed Europe and the world.

UK - We pray for Prime Minister Boris Johnson, that you would strengthen him in his time of leadership, that he would call upon You for discerning the way ahead for the UK. We think of the family who were killed in Bermondsey this week. May their families know your strength and peace at this difficult time. And as people turn to more cost-effective ways of living, may the cost of living be seen through the cross of Christ. For the UK, we ask for your mercy and forgiveness where we have been slow to meet these needs, and too quick, to make judgements upon others.

Church - We hope that here in Redditch and the wider community, that relationships between churches would be strengthened, that efforts to refocus on the collective ability to work together, would have a positive effect on many people as Jesus is revealed in and through our lives and indeed the communities in our neighbourhoods. Community - We pray that church would actively become the voice of conscience in the community, standing up for those marginalised by bureaucracy and speaking up for those whose voices are lost in the silence of indifference. May Your voice be clearly heard through the witness of the local church, through our actions, and our genuine desire to see lives won for Christ.

We ask these prayers, and indeed those in our hearts, upon our lips and those we have whispered, would be heard by You, and that we would see the fruition of all these prayers come to pass by the power of Your Holy Spirit.
